Meanwhile, Sung Soo wanted to earn more money to buy Haru a diamond ring, so he was part-timing as a cleaner in Kiyoko’s dad’s hospital at night.
One day, Kiyoko was called by her dad to go to see him at the hospital after work, so she saw Sung Soo being reprimanded by another cleaner at the lobby, on her way in. She hastily rushed in, in order to not let him see her.
Her dad had asked her to meet him, as his health was deteriorating, and he needed her to come back to help him take care of the medical empire. He was genuinely sorry for his mistake in the past, and wished to make amends.
Kiyoko’s dad: Kiyoko… I know no matter what I do now, won’t bring Hero back… And you’ll probably never forgive me… But just tell me what I can do to make you come back and help me?
Kiyoko thought hard. She knew that Hero’s case was already a thing in the past, and he was still her dad after all. All he wanted to do was to protect her, even though it was using the wrong method. But she couldn’t bring herself to forgive him still. But there was something that he could do to make amends.
Kiyoko: I have a friend here… at the lobby now… He sells medical equipment… I want all our hospitals and medical facilities to buy our equipment solely from him from now on…
Kiyoko’s dad (gratefully): Is that all? And you’ll come back and help me?
Kiyoko nodded.
Kiyoko’s dad: Consider it done. I’ll send someone to look for your friend now… What’s your friend’s name?
Kiyoko: Park Sung Soo…
With steady sales coming in from Kiyoko’s dad’s medical empire, Sung Soo’s work was doing well. But he still had to save for some time before it would be enough for the ring, so he continued to work part-time at the hospital as a cleaner.
Kiyoko would notice him still cleaning at night, and hid in the shadows looking out for him, when she worked over-time. She even went to the extent of hiring an extra cleaner to help him clean most of the area before he came, so that he would have an easier time. Or getting his supervisor to give him treats or coffee breaks, at her expense. But soon Minha and Haru discovered his part-timing, and got him to buy her a cheaper ring instead.
In Korea, the Parks were having trouble with their company, as Sung Soo’s dad had fallen sick, and needed Sung Soo to go back to help out with the company. He wanted Haru to leave with him, but Nakaji professed his love for her at the airport, and she decided to stay in Japan in the end.
Sung Soo left alone, and stay in Korea to help out in his father’s company. While Kiyoko went back to stay at her family house, so she never knew what happened to Sung Soo and Minha, and worked in her dad’s medical empire. They never crossed paths again till 3 months later…
Kiyoko’s secretary: Kiyoko-san, Park-san is here to see you about the medical equipment deal.
Kiyoko: Okay… Send him in now…
When Sung Soo walked into her office, Kiyoko almost couldn’t believe her eyes. He had grown so much more matured, and he exuded much more self-confidence than before.
Sung Soo (shocked): Kiyoko-san… How come it’s you?
Kiyoko (embarrassed): This is my dad’s hospital… I’m just helping him out…
Sung Soo (in realisation): Oh… I see… I never knew… Silly me…
He scratched the back of his head in embarrassment.
Kiyoko’s thoughts (smiling): Still the same dork as before…
Kiyoko: It’s okay… Shall we get down to business?
Sung Soo (embarrassedly): Of course…
As their discussion went on, both were observing the other in the dark. Sung Soo was surprised to see Kiyoko no doubt. But he was even more drawn by the fact that she was a totally different person when she was at work. Her serious and enthusiastic work attitude impressed him, as he felt that even he wasn’t able to match up to her.
Kiyoko, on the otherhand, was struggling with her mixed feelings. Her love for Hero, mixed with her sibling love for Minha, plus her sympathy for Sung Soo, she didn’t know what was it that she was feeling towards Sung Soo. It wasn’t love. But yet, why did her heart beat so fast, when he entered the room? Was it because they were intimate before? And he took away her first time? She didn’t know. She didn’t even know why she didn’t do anything about that incident till now.
Kiyoko: I’ll need to show the documents to my respective heads, and discuss with them before making the final decision on our purchases. I hope you don’t mind.
Sung Soo: No problem… I’ll wait for your good news then?
Kiyoko (smiling politely): For sure.
Sung Soo extended out his hand to shake Kiyoko’s. She looked at his hand, and hesitated a while, as she remembered in a flashback of memory, how he pulled her into his arms with his hand. She shoke that memory off and shoke his hand politely.
Sung Soo: Are you still staying at the same apartment as before?
Kiyoko: No… I’ve moved back to stay with my dad…
Sung Soo (nodding in realisation): I see…
Sung Soo’s thoughts: She’s rich… why would she stay at the old and cheap pigeon hole?
There was an awkward silence. Sung Soo looked at his watch, it was almost time for lunch.
Sung Soo: Wow… it’s almost lunch time… You wanna grab lunch together with me?
Kiyoko’s thoughts: Lunch with him? Can I handle it? Maybe I should excuse myself…
Seeing Kiyoko ponder so long, Sung Soo got the hint that she was too busy to entertain him.
Sung Soo (laughing awkwardly): I’m such a fool… You must be busy… I’ll take my leave first… Don’t hold you up any longer…
Sung Soo turned to leave. Kiyoko felt bad for him.
Kiyoko: Sung-soo-san… Wait… I’ll give you a treat to welcome you back to Japan…
Sung Soo (smiling happily): That’ll be great…

At a sushi restaurant…
They ordered sashimi and sushi, and the sashimi had just arrived. Kiyoko was about to eat the sashimi when she suddenly felt nauseous and excused herself to the restroom. She puked repeatedly inside the cubicle. Her face was all pale when she came back out. Sung Soo was still waiting for her to come out before he started on the food. He got up on his feet immediately when he saw her come back, and her face was as pale as a sheet of paper, and helped her back to her seat.
Sung Soo (worriedly): Are you okay? You look so pale, you should see a doctor now…
Kiyoko (forcing a smile): It’s okay… I’m probably having a cold… You go ahead with the food… I think I’ll pass…
Sung Soo (waving for the waiter): Waiter… Can I get these to go? And please cancel the rest of our orders, my friend isn’t feeling well, we need to leave now…
Kiyoko: Sung-soo-san… I’m alright… You don’t have to…
Sung Soo (cutting her short): You look sick, I’m taking you to a doctor now…
